According to the Apple’s release note, here are the new features come with the iTunes update:

  • iTunes in the Cloud – iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, any time, at no additional cost.
  • Download Previous Purchases – Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.
  • Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.
  • Automatic Downloads – Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.
  • Wi-Fi Syncing – Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they’re both on the same Wi-Fi network.
For Jailbroken User

If you’re using jailbroken iPhone, your device should be compatible with iTunes 10.5. That means you can sync the device with iTunes without any issue. However, please stay away from upgrading to iOS 5. Otherwise you may lose your jailbreak.

Former Engadget editor Joshua T. is hearing that Apple’s upcoming iphone 5 will have a new tear drop design with a 3.7 inch screen. Joshua also notes that the home button is bigger and is to be used as a gesture area also?..According to Joshua:

Our sources say the new model (or at least one of the new designs in testing) looks “more like the iPod touch than the iPhone 4.” The phone will be thinner than the iPhone 4, and may have a “teardrop” shape which goes from thick to thin (something along the lines of the MacBook Air profile).

Our source says the company is doing very “interesting things” with bonded glass technology, and has been exploring designs where the earpiece and sensors are somehow behind the screen itself, making for a device where the display is actually edge-to-edge.

Our sources can’t confirm whether or not Apple’s working on its own version of cable-free juicing. There’s also a “swipe area” shown in the drawing which appears to be on the bottom and / or top of the device — that could very well be an NFC point, but that’s pure speculation on our part.

Toshiba has announced SmartNAND, its next-generation 24-nanometer (nm) NAND flash product family. The SmartNAND series integrates leading-edge 24nm process NAND flash technology with a control chip that supports error correction code (ECC) and is available in densities ranging from 4 to 64 gigabyte (GB). Its advanced process combined with a faster controller and internal interface achieves faster read and write speeds and enhances overall performance. Optimized to suit design objectives, SmartNAND supports a range of read and write speeds including four read modes and two write modes. It could possibly be used by Apple for its next generation iPhone.

Samples of the new SmartNAND family are available in mid-April and mass production will begin in the second quarter of CY2011 (April to June). Mass production of the 64GB version doesn’t begin until Q3 2011 which is in line with recent rumors that estimate the iPhone 5 will be released this fall.

As you can see from these pictures, the screen of the new iPhone is expected to be larger than the iPhone 4′s. Moreover, the differences of the frame suggests that they have made some antenna modification consequently addressing the loss of signal. More information about iPhone 5 rumor here.

As for now, iPhone Dev-Team has releasing Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1. This is a good news for those who accidentally upgrade or stuck on this iOS. This jailbreak has been made possible by the untether exploit found by i0n1c or Stefan Esser. Stefan then turned over the exploit to the Dev-Team who have been trusted with stable jailbreak solutions over the years. With the combined effort of Dev-Team and Stefan Esser we know have an iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak solution for all iOS devices except the iPad 2.

The updated version of RedSn0w is available for both Mac and Windows users while the PwnageTool will work only on Mac. The jailbroken only compatible as listed below using this tool.

  • iPhone3GS
  • iPhone4 (GSM)
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPad1
  • AppleTV 2G (PwnageTool only for now)

The iPad 2 users will have to wait a bit longer since the bootrom exploit does not work on iPad 2 yet.

Stay away from this tools if you require Ultrasn0w unlocking (Ultrasn0w users)!

If you require a software based unlock for your iPhone then you must wait for a while. Ultrasn0w update will be released soon to support unlock on iOS 4.3. Also, you must be careful while updating to iOS 4.3.1. You need to use custom IPSW to prevent the baseband upgrade.

If you don’t care about an unlock and have been waiting to upgrade your iOS device to iOS 4.3.1 you can take the leap now as you have a stable jailbreak release.

You may download redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 here:

Apple today announced that it will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) June 6 through June 10 at San Francisco’s Moscone West. According to the press release, this year the conference will focus on the future of iOS and Mac OS.

“At this year’s conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “If you are an iOS or Mac OS X software developer, this is the event that you do not want to miss.”

If you’re a mobile or Mac OS developer, here are the activities at WWDC 2011:

  • more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers on a wide range of technology-specific topics for developing, deploying and integrating the latest iOS and Mac OS technologies;
  • over 1,000 Apple engineers providing developers with code-level assistance, insight into optimal development techniques, and guidance on how they can make the most of iOS and Mac OS technologies in their apps;
  • the opportunity to connect with thousands of fellow iPad®, iPhone® and Mac developers from around the world; and
  • Apple Design Awards which recognize iPad, iPhone and Mac apps that demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and outstanding design.
So what about iPhone 5? Will Apple debut the next generation of iPhone during WWDC? We do not know about that. But base on its track record, Apple used to announce a new phone every June. Let’s wait and see. The ticket is now available for purchase at Apple's WWDC website.

As a rumors been around for a couple of months, iOS 5 is likely to be postponed till this fall and it’s said to be previewed at WWDC. Apple would revamp its MobileMe service as a cloud-based service for remote file and music storage. The upcoming iOS 5 is said to focus more on the cloud services. A number of new services may launch with this new version including a “music locker” service which could store your music remotely and a location service that lets you find friends and family members.

According to Techcrunch:

  • iOS 5 will launch in the fall and will be a major revamp of the OS.
  • It could well be previewed at WWDC, it just won’t be released then.
  • The iOS 5 launch is also likely to coincide with the release of a new type of iPad which we previously reported on.
  • The new iOS will be heavily built around the cloud, and we could see several new services launch from Apple that take advantage of this.
  • Yes, one of those is very likely a “music locker” service. There is also a fall launch aim for this, during Apple’s annual music-themed event.
  • But much of the cloud stuff will first be talked about at WWDC, Apple’s developer event which will take place in June.
  • One of the new cloud service elements is likely a location service that focuses on finding friends and family members.
  • So what about iPhone 5? If the Techcrunch’s source is right, it’s very likely the iPhone 5 will not come with iOS 5. Instead, an iOS 4.x version specifically designed for the new iPhone.

It is now being reported that a few Foxconn ninjas have with their own eyes seen a prototype iphone 5. They state the shape and style is the same as an iphone 4 but it has two key changes.
    • Bigger screen possibly 4 inch with no changes made to the design just less bezel on the iphone edges.
    • A metal back which makes sense as the very first iphone had a metal backing but then Apple started using plastic backing to improve network connection.

Do take note that if a metal back is used for future iphone’s it would not affect radio performance since Apple is using their new antennae technology. Our hunch on all this, the next generation iphone will have a new look with a bigger screen and aluminum/liquid metal back and you can’t forget about the spec updates such as more memory, faster processor.

iDealsChina has reportedly gotten their hands on design drawings for the next generation iPhone 5. Going along with earlier rumors the drawings show a larger screen going from edge to edge with a thinner bezel.

    iDealsChina States:

We just got what appears to be mold engineering drawings for iPhone 5. These would be used by case designers to create plastic, TPU, aluminum, silicone and leather cases. A while back we hear rumors that iPhone 5 would have a curved back but these images show iPhone 5 with the same form factor as iPhone 4 but with an edge to edge screen.

The new update brings many new features and is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3rd gen, iPod Touch 4th Gen, and the iPad. The two features in iOS 4.3 that we have been looking forward to the most are Personal Hotspot and iTunes Home Sharing. iOS 4.3 has been released by Apple, ahead of schedule. iOS 4.3 was supposed to be released on 11th March along with the iPad 2.

As i mentioned before, Jailbreakers and Unlockers should stay away from this upgrade at the moment until the dev-team releases updated tools.

    New Features In iOS 4.3:

    • Personal Hotspot- Share iPhone 4 cellular data connection with up to 5 devices (comination of up to 3 Wi-Fi, 3 Bluetooth, and 1 USB)
    • New AirPlay Features – Play videos from the Photos app including the Camera Roll album, iTunes previews, enabled third-party apps, and websites on Apple TV.
    • Faster Safari Performance with Apple Nitro JavaScript engine
    • HD Video Out using the Apple Digital AV Adapter – View 720p HD videos from the Videos app, iPod app, Photos, YouTube, Safari, Keynote, and enabled third-party apps on an HDMI display
    • New Settings
    • Messages setting for number of times to repeat an alert
    • iPad side switch settings to lock screen rotation or mute audio notifications and sound effects
    • iTunes Home Sharing – Play music, movies and TV shows from a shared iTunes library on a Mac or PC (requires iTunes 10.2)
    • Ping Features
-Push notifications for comments and follow requests
-Posts and Like songs directly from the Now Playing screen
    -Parental controls
    • Single tap conference call dialing with a pause to send a passcode
    • Bug Fixes

During the iPad 2 event, Apple mentioned the iOS 4.3 will be available to all users on March 11. Our recommendation is to stay on iOS 4.2.1 a month after 4.3 is released as all its going to be is a headache.

BigBoss also pointed out the upcoming iOS update will come with an implementation of address space layout randomization (ASLR). Such implementation change will impact the way mobile substrate works. If you haven’t heard of mobile substrate, it is a code library that other tweaks depend on. So if mobile substrate doesn’t work with iOS 4.3, your favorite hacks like WinterBoard, BiteSMS, etc will not work either.

With 4.3 comes apple’s implementation of address space layout randomization (ASLR). In short, this will mess up the way mobile substrate works. You will need a new mobile substrate in order to use your favorite tweaks such as winterboard, sbsettings, bitesms, folder enhancer, etc. So you should definitely avoid 4.3 until an “official” jailbreak is released for it. Of course we will announce when that is right here.

Therefore, avoid upgrading to iOS 4.3 until a stable jailbreak solution is released.

For some readers who are currently using the iPhone 3GS, they are still considering the upgrade. One, who is quite new to iPhone, said, what are the difference between iPhone 4 and 3GS? Needless to say, the iPhone 4 is a major upgrade over iPhone 3GS. Apple has published a comparison between these two phones at it website. But below comparison from Mahalo gives a better presentation.

Developed by Teck Chia, Flora Sun and Tim Wuu, OpenAppMkt is a piece of smart thinking and quick implementation. And the best part - though Apple will hate it, it has no control over it. Similar to App Store & Cydia, OpenAppMkt offers both free and paid apps, albeit – only those which run within the Safari browser.

The Installation f OpenAppMkt is easy and quick – just visit the OpenAppMkt website and follow the onscreen instructions. It creates an OpenAppMkt icon on your iPhone’s home screen. Bear in mind, that when you download an app through OpenAppMkt, it actually doesn’t install anything on your phone, it merely creates a Safari bookmark on your homescreen.

As a developer, you can get your app listed on OpenAppMkt for free. However, developers who sell paid web apps will need to share 20 percent of their revenues with the founders. Chia insists that many iOS apps on the iTunes App Store are actually built with HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS and then compiled into an app before being sent to the iTunes Store for sale or download.

Here’s a video of the OpenAppMkt app in action.

If you were disappointed that you can’t upload full 720p video from your iPhone 4 to YouTube without transferring it to a computer first, then check out the latest update to the free app Pixelpipe.

While there has been some speculation over whether app developers would be able to access the full-resolution videos for sharing, commenters were quick to assure us there was no reason to worry. Pixelpipe claims that it will share your edited mobile masterpiece in all its splendor not only with YouTube but also to Flickr, Facebook, MobileMe, Viddler, Posterous and a bunch of other video-capable sites (as well email and FTP) for videos up to 200MB.

The update to 2.01 is also quick to add iOS 4.0 multitasking for background uploading and should continue to serve as a semi-ubiquitous multi-tool for getting our videos (and pictures) uploaded almost anywhere you want them to go. We mentioned Pixelpipe previously around the time of the 3GS launch last year; it seems to have come a long way since then.

It is worth noting that some users seem to be experiencing some instability with the app that will hopefully get ironed out quickly. If you are having trouble with it, keep your eyes peeled for other developers to follow up with alternatives now that we know 720p uploading is possible.

Update: Reader Aaron notes that SmugShot is also 720p-upload enabled.

iAds have arrived. This advertisement for the Nissan Leaf is the first to make an appearance.

The initial launch of iAd rich media ads, featuring advertising from some of the world’s leading brands, will begin July 1. At launch, we’ll roll out in North America and ramp up the number of ads served in the weeks and months ahead. For developers outside of North America, iAd will be rolled out in a few months.

I needed the mediaplayer frameworks from an iPad [/System/Library/Frameworks/MediaPlayer.framework], thanks to one of your forum members, I was able to get that. Then, it still wouldn’t work. Noticing my winterboard theme was overriding the mediaplayer layout I disabled it, retried the app and viola, it worked! All that had to be changed was a couple lines in the applications info.plist file and the mediaplayer frameworks, along with a manual install/permissions. (My other apps requiring mediaplayer still run fine.)

But, having said that, I see why Netflix hasn’t released an iPhone client yet. Reasons why:
    ● Huge battery drain – 25% of battery for around 15min of streaming, drains pretty quick while browsing the app as well.
    ● Crashing – I suspect memory is the issue here, and also probably because it’s made for another device. Happened when browsing too fast through the app(lots of clicks).
    ● 3G Speed – Takes forever to load the app and to start streaming (does work though)

The iPhone 4 comes with a new design of glass and stainless steel. It is extra thin with merely 9.3 millimeters, that is 24% thinner than iPhone 3GS. The front and back are made of aluminosilcate glass with oil-resistant coating. According to Apple the glass is chemically strengthened to be 30 times harder than plastic, more scratch resistant and more durable than ever.

The new iPhone is now encircled by stainless steel band made of a custom alloy. The band even functions as part of the antenna system. The physical size of iPhone 4 is 4.5 x 2.31 inches, and 0.37 inches thick. It weighs 4.8 ounces (or 137 grams).

The iPhone 4 is now powered by the A4 processor, the chip that is completely designed by Apple’s hardware team and used on iPad. The A4 processor is said to consume less power that results in a better battery life.

Just like the iPad 3G, the new iPhone now utilizes micro-SIM, which is smaller in size than a regular SIM card. It also includes a microphone built into its top edge and uses sophisticated audio technology to suppress unwanted background noise. With the dual mic noise suppression, you can expect a better call quality.

Finally, it also comes with a front-facing camera to support video calling and makes it easy to take self portraits. The back camera is also upgraded with 5-megapixels. And, it is even built-in with LED Flash!

The 3.5-inch display is now known as Retina Display with 960 x 640 resolution with an 800-to-1 contrast ratio. It is four times as many pixels as the iPhone 3GS and 78 percent of the pixels on an iPad. The screen now has 326 pixel per inch resolution. That means it makes text, images and video look sharper, smoother and more realistic. Similar to the iPad, it uses IPS technology.

    Video Calling

One of the most notable features is the support of video calling. iPhone 4 comes with a new feature called FaceTime that lets you make video call over WIFI (just WiFi for now).

FaceTime works in both portrait and landscape mode. While you are in the video call, you can switch between the front and back camera. The front camera is designed to capture your face and you can switch to the back camera when you want to share what you see with your friend. FaceTime is a feature particular for iPhone 4. You can’t make video call to other 3G phones using this feature.

    HD Video Recording

With the improved camera and LED flash, you can shoot video in stunning resolution in both bright and dark environment. As before, you can use the Camera app to perform basic video editing. If you are an advanced user, Apple also announced a new app called iMovie that lets combine and edit video clips, polish your movies with dynamic themes and transitions. You can even add background music to your video. All these can be done right on the iPhone 4.

    Battery Life

The battery is 16% bigger than the current one. And, it’s the biggest component in iPhone 4. As a result, it brings a longer battery life and here are the figures from Apple:

    • Talk time: 7 hours over 3G or 14 hours over 2G
    • Internet over 3G: 6 hours
    • Internet over WIFI:
    • 10 hours
    • Video playback: 10 hours
    • Music playback: 40 hours
    • Stand-by: 300 hours
The iPhone 4 will be available in both black and white on June 24. The 16GB version costs US$199, while the 32GB version costs US$299. iPhone 4 will be available in the US, France, Germany, Japan and the UK on June 24 and customers can pre-order their iPhone 4 beginning Tuesday, June 15 from the Apple Online Store or reserve an iPhone 4 to pick up at an Apple Retail Store. To learn more about the iPhone 4, remember to check out the promotion video:

The digitizer resembles the 3G and 3Gs with the exception of a camera hole next to the top speaker. The back case doesn’t resemble anything we’ve seen so far. The photos do confirm these will likely be available in white. One other note is that the model # of the device in these pictures is XXXXX. Usually that indicates a prototype model. Usually you don’t see prototype pictures so close to a model release, which makes us wonder if the iPhone 4G really will be released at WWDC.
